Merry Humbug June: Little Elves!

If you are participating in my Merry Humbug challenge, your June assignment is Little Elves! It’s a double pattern that features a boy and a girl elf. The Elf Girl is just coming back from the mailbox with Santa’s letters. She’s sporting a scarf and mittens and carrying a teeny mailbag with removable letters. The Elf Boy is helping Mrs. Claus check off the Naughty Or Nice List with his adorable little pencil. You can of course customize the Naughty Or Nice list for your own family. Like when I made one for my mom, guess which one of her kids was the only nice one on the list. *snicker*

MERRY HUMBUG is a challenge for folks who are ready to tackle my intermediate level patterns, so you should have some mmmakin’ experience under your belts. Some of the pieces are tiny. (If you have completed my Twelve Days series, you are ready!)

Share a photo of your completed elves in the comments of the pinned June Facebook post, or tag your Instagram post with @mmmcrafts and #merryhumbugchallenge to share your mmmakes! (Please, no photos or videos of my pattern pages.) As much as I’d like to, I can’t sew along with you. I’m up to my eyeballs with my latest ornament design, but I’ll cheer you on!

PLAN YOUR COLORS:

I used two different wool-blend color palettes for my samples shown above, both from Benzie Design: Classic (the red, blue and yellow ones) and Retro (the pink, orange, and mint ones). Links to buy the felt bundles and detailed color guides are here. And of course, if these colors are not your jam, choose your own! Use the color planner to help you stay organized. And here’s a helpful cheat for creating your own color schemes.

HEAD TUTORIAL: Please review this helpful tutorial for making winsome faces, then follow the detailed instructions for the Little Elves heads, which are included in the pattern. The lil’ ears are made from skin colored card stock.

NOTE: If you have trouble sourcing some of the notions or tools required, Benzie Design stocks a lot of what you need! They are awesome. If you are outside the US, check here.
