Color Guide: LodeStar Ornaments
LodeStar Ornaments is the second and final pattern in my LodeStar Series. Below are the detailed Benzie color guides for each of my Original and Bethlehem samples.
BENZIE DESIGN has long been one of my favorite places to buy wool felts. They have stellar customer service, quick shipping, and their felt, floss, sequins and beads are an absolute joy to work with! Plus they stock a lot of the other materials needed for my patterns. You’ll find many of the supplies at BenzieDesign.com but some of my curated felt palettes are only sold from their Etsy shop.

Below I’ll tell you exactly what I used from my stash – all felt is Benzie, but some of the notions may not be. For instance, I used bulk silver lined 10/0 beads for most of the seed beads, but Benzie’s 11/0 beads also work wonderfully well. Feel free to make substitutions!
THE COLOR GUIDES:
ORIGINAL – GOLD SILVER WHITE:
BENZIE FELT COLORS:
C: White (Full disclosure: I actually used Peltex 70 instead of white wool felt to get really crisp edges and sharp points. Peltex is harder to sew through, but it does look nice and crisp! haha. Feel free to use white wool felt.)
D: Gold metallic
E: Silver metallic
FLOSS/SEQUIN/BEAD COLORS:*
C: DMC D3852, date on back: DMC D3852
D: DMC White, Benzie 5 mm silver cupped and 4 mm silver sequins + 10/0 silver lined glass beads
E: DMC White, Benzie 8 mm gold sequins + clear iridescent 5 mm + 10/0 silver lined glass beads
Hanging loop: DMC DG168
*All sequins/beads sewn with gold metallic sewing thread. In addition to the thread/floss colors listed above, you will also need matching floss or thread to sew the pieces together.

BETHLEHEM – AQUA SILVER:
BENZIE FELT COLORS:
F: Aqua (So I went against my own recommendation here and used wool felt for the large layer instead of metallic, and as a result the points on this star are kind of wobbly. My advice: Spray the completed Aqua F star with stiffener or sub Silver metallic for F and Aqua for G.)
G: Silver metallic

I hope this guide was helpful! You can follow the colors exactly, but feel free to vary the choices to match your tastes (and your stash) or let it inspire you to make your own unique combos. The way I’ve combined these Benzie colors show just a few of the possibilities! I’d love to see what you make. ? #lodestarornaments
such beautiful stars! Your stitching on your dates is so perfect! I am striving for that! thank you for the beautiful ornament versions, I have a tiny tree in my apartment so love having a smaller size. I’m going to use the ornament for my little tree topper! I always appreciate the color guides as I am color challenged to choose my own.
Hey Jeannie, thanks so much! Oh, great, the original star makes a lovely mini tree topper. See tips at the end on how to put it together. 🙂
