Hi Larissa. I am having trouble with the shrinkage on some of the felt colours from Benzie – after I have embroidered and cut out the piece – then set it in cold water to remove the stabilizer. I do preshrink the felt before starting. I cut out a rough amount I need for a piece – and then preshrink all the rough pieces. The colour that seems to shrink more than the rest is what I am using for the back of the partridge and pear – the Benzie mustard. Have you had this issue? I end up with a smaller back piece of the partridge and pear after I have embroidered, removed the stabilizer and laid out to dry. Do you think I should pre-shrink this colour twice before embroidering and cutting out? Thanks – Denise Dolliver
Hey, Denise! I’m so sorry to hear that. No, I have not had that happen with any of the Benzie felt. I have found that if a piece has lots of embroidery that the embroidery can pull it in a bit (which is helped by gently stretching it back out when it’s dry) but that doesn’t sound Iike it’s the issue with the back of the P&P, which has minimal stitching. Best suggestion for you would be to use cool water to soak away the stabilizer (as opposed to warm) for the minimal amount of time it takes, and maybe preshrink twice like you said (or for longer?). I’m really mystified! It’s a color I use a lot! Reaching out to Benzie would be a good idea also.
Thanks for getting back to me, Larissa. I always soak the stabilizier off in cold water for 15 minutes. That does the trick and then I rinse the rest away with my spray nozzle. I think I will pre-shrink twice – and maybe a give it a gentle stretch after the piece is dry. I have not had the embroidery pull on pieces as you mentioned.
