By The Chimney preview, plus materials needed
Here’s a PREVIEW of upcoming pattern By The Chimney, the 6th in my ‘Twas The Night ornaments. After a bagful of rejects, this is the final stocking design and stuffer selection. I’m busy working to make samples and I have begun to write the pattern, but there’s a long row to hoe before it’s in the shop. I just wanted to update you with the progress! Yay progress!
Details, details: YES, of course the gift box opens so you can hide a tiny present, coins, or note in it, if you like. YES, the book contains the full text of the poem along with a book plate to add a name. I would love to shoot a reel to show you the details soon, but the light this weekend is really dismal. Another day.
SKILL LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE
This is not a beginner’s project! If you have completed my Twelve Days series or completed other ornaments in my intermediate series, you are ready.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
If you plan to make this pattern after it releases, you can gather some items to prep. As usual, a printer is needed, and toner rather than ink will give a better result. Of course the lovely Benzie Design ‘Twas The Night Classic or Retro wool felt palettes, Sulky Stick ‘n Stitch, DMC flosses/threads, sequins, seed beads, 3 mm cotton pipe cleaners, stuffing, Tacky Glue, and a 20 mm wood bead. All the usual suspects common to my patterns.
Besides the usual stuff, you’ll also need two 6 mm wood beads for the doll hands (8 mm is too big), two mini jingle bells for the stocking, scraps of colored card stock for the book cover and gift box, and one sheet of 24-28 lb printer paper for the book pages (think slightly heavier/nicer than cheap 20 lb laser paper). The candy cane is made with one cotton pipe cleaner and one 3 mm mini chenille stem, but if you can’t find mini chenille stems you can use yarn, or hand dye a cotton pipe cleaner with permanent marker. You’ll also need a small scrap of Peltex or white stiffened craft felt for the back of the lolly, and a scrap of brown stiffened craft felt for the back of the gingerbread cookie. An X-acto knife, ruler, and small, sharp scissors are key for making the book and the gift box.
There are more stuffer options included in the pattern than will fit in the stocking so you can customize for your recipient! For each stocking, choose either the doll or teddy, then choose either the book or the gift box. After that, fill in the chinks with the lolly, cookie, and candy cane.
OK! Back to work for me!
Yay! Can’t wait! They’re sooo cute! Going to have to make multiple cause must have doll AND teddy!
Thank you, Mandy!
Love all the cute stuffers, it’s going to be hard choosing what to put in, will have to make them all!
I’m trying to work out if there is a way to make the snowflake more central on the stocking as I’m not quite sure about it being off centre.
But can’t wait for the pattern to be available and get stitching!
Hey Andrea, thanks so much! Yes, make at least two stockings so you can make them all. 🙂 You can simplify by deleting the stripes and putting the snowflake there.
I can’t wait! I love your patterns and am looking forward to making this for my grandkids next Christmas!
Thanks so much, Diane! I know your handmade gifts will be treasured!
I can’t wait to make these, do you know when the pattern will be ready?
I make one of your items each year for my Mom and sister 😍.
Thank you for your hard and beautiful work!
Ginger
Hey there Ginger! So nice, thank you! I will be releasing this pattern in plenty of time to make for Christmas.
Hi Larissa
I know you won’t reply to this as I just read your post about how busy you are with your Mom. Been there so I understand how much of a commitment you are making.
This year I am completing the NEAM and I doing 5 for all my grandies – all boys and not into pink at ALL! And trying to catch up on the latest addition to the family from last year.
Your guidelines are fabulous but I have to make them all different as now the older cousins are starting to compare!
I’m wondering if your By the Chimney might have a toy soldier or something besides a doll.
And just as an aside not only do I love your designs, I have 2 friends that are starting on the Santa’s after seeing your designs.
Sherry
Hey there Sherry! Wow, your hands stay busy! There’s a doll and also a teddy bear, so the teddy would be good for boys!
Hi Larissa,
So far I’ve made the Twelve days of Christmas x 5, Lodestars, the little houses, the little cups with the rabbit and mouse, Santander and Mrs Claus, the Elves and my favourite so far, the Ebenezer series, I’m making 3 of these, one for myself and one each for my two daughters. I love your work but would like to know if By the Chimney will be ready to make for Christmas. Many thanks, Boo
Hey Boo! Wow, you’ve been busy! That’s fantastic. 🙂 Yes, the pattern should be out in plenty of time!
