TDITM 26: Drummer Drumming Done!

I got myself in gear and actually finished this month’s challenge way early. For reals. It’s been done for more than a week, but I have not had a chance to blog it until now. Good job, Larissa! *pats self*

No color freakouts at all, y’all! It’s a streak! This lil’ guy came together pretty painlessly. I knew I wanted a pink drum and red boots and went from there. I have to be honest and say I’m going through some pretty tough times in my family life, so being in the studio was absolutely therapeutic. I can escape up there, turn off the half of my brain that in charge of #life and just sew. I know that God will see my family through, and I’m leaning heavily on Him. He is faithful.

Longer boots: I have to confess I elongated the boots on this one and also the one for Abi last year. It’s been bothering me for years that the drummer legs look a bit short, so I actually updated the Etsy pattern this time too. If you want to do the same, cut the pattern piece legs apart at the ankles and elongate them 2 mm. (Contact me via Etsy if you’d like the updated pattern.) Hairspray for the win, again: Once again I used hairspray to treat the bead and his face went on so smoothly with no bleed using regular Microns, pencils, and a Posca. It’s a really handy way to seal the bead and dries almost instantly. Drum sticks: I used the same fancy Diamond brand toothpicks that I used for Abi’s drummer last year. Plus I painted them red this time because that’s fun. Check that post to see a photo of the toothpick package and where I got them. Sparkle: Just like last year, I fancied this drummer up a little with 4 mm sequins on the drum and metallic felt for the straps.
