Merry Humbug July: Ghost of Christmas Present!

If you are participating in my Merry Humbug challenge, your July assignment is Ghost of Christmas Present! This short-lived spirit is the favorite of many Dickens devotees because of his cheerful demeanor and the fact that he represents the joy, peace, and plenty of Christmas day itself. And the best part for Dickens fans: Inside his robe are hidden the pitiable figures of Ignorance and Want.

MERRY HUMBUG is a challenge for folks who are ready to tackle my intermediate level patterns, so you should have some mmmakin’ experience under your belts. Some of the pieces are tiny and there are many steps. (If you have completed my Twelve Days series, you are ready!)

Share a photo of your completed ghost in the comments of the pinned June Facebook post, or tag your Instagram post with @mmmcrafts and #merryhumbugchallenge to share your mmmakes! (Please, no photos or videos of my pattern pages.) As much as I’d like to, I can’t sew along with you. I’m up to my eyeballs with deadlines, but I’ll cheer you on!

PLAN YOUR COLORS:

I used two different wool-blend color palettes for my samples shown above, both from Benzie Design: Victorian and Modern Pastel. Links to buy the felt bundles and detailed color guides are here. And of course, if these colors are not your jam, choose your own! Use the color planner to help you stay organized. And here’s a helpful cheat for creating your own color schemes.

HEAD TUTORIAL: Please review this helpful tutorial for making winsome faces, then follow the detailed instructions for the Ghost’s head, which are included in the pattern. The mustache can be made from card stock or felt, and the beard is a chenille stem like on Santa Claus.

NOTE: If you have trouble sourcing some of the notions or tools required, Benzie Design stocks a lot of what you need! They are awesome. If you are outside the US, check here.
