TDITM 26 May Challenge: Gold Ring
If you are participating in my Twelve Days in Twelve Months sewing challenge to complete one Twelve Days ornament a month, it’s time to sew the fifth pattern: Gold Ring!
Let’s do this, mmmakers! *high fives* Gold Ring is the fifth pattern in the series, and YAY it’s not a bird! While some scholars contend that gold ring actually refers to a type of pheasant, the illustration in Mirth Without Mischief c. 1780 features jewelry. That’s good enough for me. For mine, I will be swinging back to the green/aqua end of my palette (similar to the French Hen from March), because I’m alternating colors each month to end with a half & half set.
This one apparently looks like a brain bender to some, but trust me it’s not complicated. I think the illusion of the darker inside of the ring showing on the front sometimes throws folks for a minute, but the basic ring is actually just two felt donuts sewn wrong sides together and stuffed (the trick is the front donut is made from two pieces). Trust me, you can do this! Just don’t skip marking the centers as instructed so everything lines up.
Of course, Gold Ring is the perfect excuse to add some sparkly sequins and metallic felt accents, like you see below on the one I made in 2025 for Abigail:
Add a photo of your completed ornaments in the comments of the pinned Facebook post, or tag your Instagram post with @mmmcrafts and #twelvedaysin12months to share your progress! (Please, no photos of my pattern pages.)
Buy the Gold Ring pattern if you don’t have it yet. (Or if you need the whole series, the 1-12 bundle is the best discounted price and contains bonus materials!)
