Handmade Gifts 2015: Ornament for Baby John
My niece, Erin, and her husband, Nathan, lost a precious baby boy before he was born. His name is John. I thought this ornament would be a special way for his brother and sister to remember him each year when they decorate their Christmas tree.
The angel was made using my Wee Princess Pea pattern for the doll, only slightly elongated. The wings are made of stiffened wool felt. The babe in arms is made of wood beads, a cotton pipe cleaner, and felt.
We love you, Baby John, even though we never got to meet you here on Earth. As David said in 2 Samuel 12, you cannot come to us, but we will go to you. All our love to my niece’s sweet family and my sister’s family as you remember this child and grandchild that flew straight to God.
This is beautiful. We also lost a baby last year, and it has been incredibly difficult to explain to my then 2-year-old daughter (now 3) why Mommy doesn't have a baby anymore.
I pray that your niece and her family find comfort from their loss each time they place this beautiful ornament on their Christmas tree.
Jennifer, I'm so sorry for your loss! My niece's small kids talk often about their lost baby brother and I think it's really helped them understand it and heal. Hugs to you!
What a beautiful and simple way to remember baby John's life and keep his spirit close at heart during Christmas. Very lovely, and really touched my heart.
This will be a treasured gift. Absolutely lovely.
My heart was very touched by your gift… I'm sure those parents' hearts were touched so much more. What a beautiful and comforting remembrance to bring out each Christmas… their baby John in the arms of an angel.
So very sweet. Love this.
Larissa, this is a beautiful physical tribute to Baby John. Loss is always hard. Even before they are born, God knew them. So very sweet.
Beautiful! I have been in this situation myself and this is a lovely remembrance.
Shelly, thank you!
Thanks, Elizabeth!
Grandma G, thanks so much.
Thank you, Natalie!
Rosemary, yes, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. It's a comfort to know God loves John more than any of us possibly can.
I'm so sorry for your loss, Ginny!
How lovely. What a treasure that will be.
Thanks, Bob!
That is so beautiful! I make Angel Gowns (infant bereavement gowns) for parents that experience the loss of a child and I've been looking for an additional item to add to my packet, something the family can have as a remembrance of their little one. I hope you won't mind if I use this idea as an inspiration. We are limited on what materials we can use, as we are completely non-profit, so I may have to make it one dimensional without the beads. I've been searching and searching for something that fits perfectly what I feel…angels carrying the little one to the hands of God. Thank you for sharing this!
Kathy, not at all. Sorry to be so late in replying, this comment slipped by me. How sweet for you to make those gowns to bless parents with, and I'm sure your ornaments will bless them too.
I love this but where can I find the directions to make one myself?
Hi, there. There are no instructions available for this ornament at this time, however it's based on the figurine from my Wee Princess Pea pattern, of course with modifications. That pattern is here: mmmcrafts.etsy.com
