Drum Roll Please…Molly Monkey Pattern Done!
NOTE: Please do not upload my PDF to another server. Leave it right here where it can be downloaded conveniently for free and also updated with any improvements or changes (which it has been, twice at least!). ALSO NOTE: If you are having trouble with the placement for the face, you can print an extra pattern piece for the face, then cut the eyes out and poke holes with a large pin on the lines for the nose and mouth. Then you can lay your template over the felt face piece to draw on the eyes and make dots to guide for the mouth and nose placement with a disappearing marker.
At long, long last, I’ve completed the Molly Monkey pattern, and it is here for you to download, gratis. Help yourself! It is a zip file that is 1.5 mb. Uncompressed, it turns into a nine page PDF file, which can be opened and printed by a variety of PDF reader programs, like Acrobat Reader.
I put a lot of crazy hours into the pattern and doll design, so please never sell, publish or distribute the pattern. That is a violation of my copyright.
Wonderful and intrepid volunteer crafters, Olivia and Chandra, made Mollies from the first draft of the pattern so that you could have the much-improved second draft. See their Mollies below: Chandra’s is the Molly with the pink beret, Olivia’s is the Molly with the blue beret. I was so excited to see their creations!

DONE! I completed Molly last night and I am SO happy with the result. I made it for my neices 1st birthday and used some brown cord pants from the op shop for the cord material (they only cost $2). I actually made molly for my daughter last December & gave it to her on her 2nd birthday. She LOVES her monkey, has to have it to sleep every night. Today I finally appliqued the shoes on. I embroidered the face because I thought it gave it a more vintage look & would wear better. My son has been trying to steal the monkey since he was 9 months old, he just turned a year old & is still in love with the monkey so I'm going to make him a boy monkey today. I'll get some pics on the flicker page asap.

I started making this adorable monkey today but I am stuck on the ears. I am finding it impossible to turn once stitched. Is the seam allowance still 1/4 inch for the ear? Any help you can give me would be great! At this point I was thinking of making felt ears and just sewing them wrong sides together.
Kristin, it is a small thing to turn. Yes, the allowance is 1/4 inch. You could totally do the felt ears and that would be fine! Turning these just takes patience and a pair of blunt tweezers.

Thanks for the pattern! I just made a monkey for my daughter. She was just starting kindergarden and didn't have any snuggler that she cared for. So I thought I would make one for her (as she likes a song about a monkey). Well…I did it and she LOVED it!! First stuffie she LOVES! So a very BIG THANKYOU!!

I plan on making this for a friend that is expecting and is crazy for monkeys. Since it's for a baby,would you suggest that I stitch the clothing directly to the doll (I already read your note about buttons for small children – so I will be just embroidering instead). Thanks in advance for offering this up! Fingers crossed that this works for even a beginner like me!

Yes, that's a good idea. I stitched on the hat and shoes for my four year old, and left the skirt free. If you are giving it to a baby, I'd suggest stitching on the skirt as well. All those stitches can be taken out as the child gets older and wants to play dress up!

I have started on making Molly for my soon to be born niece and can't wait until she's done and the baby is here! On a side note I thought you might want to know that part of tip 11 and all of tip 12 are missing from the instructions. More accomplished sewers can probably do without, but it might be nice for beginners and intermediate sewers.

I finally made Molly "Super Sized" Had to change the PDF to a GIF and I used paint to blow it up 3 times it's size and then Manipulated it to print on my printer. Lots of tape later, I had a pattern. She is about 6 ft tall now. I thing I would change is to stuff the tail AFTER it is sewn into the back. Stuff it after, just like the legs and arms.
