Snug In Their Beds prototype

Here’s a semi-complete prototype for my new ‘Twas The Night pattern, Snug In Their Beds. The kid shown is awake because that was just a head I had handy for testing. The real one will be asleep, of course, the better to dream about the dangling sugar plum {not shown}.

Did you know a sugar plum was not a plum? I always thought it was candied fruit, but nope. In Victorian times, a sugar plum was a luxury hard candy made with many painstaking layers of sugar added to a central core, which could be a nut, seed or spice. The process took several days, even weeks, so a sugar plum was a special treat. All that to say my sugar plum will look like a hard candy, and that’s why.

My next ornament prototype will have a good many adjustments, so nothing you see here is final. Stay tuned for updates! This ornament will be the 7th of nine total ornaments in the series.
