Color Guide: Cap & Gown

This is a reference guide to the Benzie Design felt, floss, and notions I used to make my Cap & Gown samples. Yours will vary in some ways from mine, since you’ll be customizing colors to match your own graduate!

SKIN TONE FELTS: I chose Benzie Seaside, Latte, and Cinnamon for my light, medium, and dark skin tones. Seaside is a good match for unpainted hardwood beads. You’ll need to tint your wood beads to match the Latte and Cinnamon felts.

Purchase the felt colors listed in the guides a la carte by searching the color names at benziedesign.com. You’ll see an option to add matching floss, which is needed to sew parts together. Benzie sells most of the other materials needed for this pattern, so have a look around their site!

White: Torso, collar, diploma
Carmine: Tie
Saffron: Hair
Mustard: Stole

Benzie Chrome Gold beads for the tassel and necklace pendant

Translucent iridescent 5 mm sequins and Benzie Moonstone seed beads for robe
Benzie 4 mm White sequin and Moonstone bead for mortarboard
Sulky gold metallic thread to sew the beads/sequins on
One Benzie Chrome Gold bead for the tassel
Pellon 70 Peltex for mortarboard (it matches the White felt perfectly)
3/8 inch blue velvet ribbon for stole
