Papercut Cards
I started an oversized version of the tole painting card for my mantel and so far it’s a fail. Poop. So I put it aside for now and made two more hand-cut cards. I like the woodcutty feel to them, and the fact you can play with paper colors behind them. I’m looking into getting a Silhouette Cameo. It would be fun to design more things like this and just let the digital cutter get the crick in its neck for a change. Do you love yours?
I have a Silhouette SD and I LOVE it. I've heard the Cameo is even better.

Natalie, I wonder what the difference is? I'll have to google it.
Beautiful 🙂
These look so pretty. You must be very patient and have a very steady hand!.
The biggest (or maybe most obvious?) difference is that the Cameo can cut 12×12 (the SD can only cut as large as 8.5 x 12). I'm pretty sure the Cameo has updated "hardware" and functionality as well. But because I already have an SD, I haven't looked too much into it (I don't want to have "grass is greener" syndrome :))
Natalie, ah, I see, thanks! bigger is better, but bigger is probably also more $$, huh? It's the way of the world. 🙂
I love my Cameo, Larissa, and I've been wanting to make cards like this with it… they are on my list. Yours are beautiful!
For your mantel, how about switching mediums, to felt or applique?
LOVE my Cameo! It would make quick work of your cards 🙂
These are beautiful! For your mantel, why don't you make a few in different sizes — instead of one big one? 🙂
Belinda and My Happy Bluebird, those are intriquing ideas. Might make a nice departure. You will see the results here if I ever get it done. LOL.
Cameo lovers, thanks for your input! Any drawbacks that you've found?
Ha. Everytime I see one of your gorgeous cards I think "She really should get a Silhouette!" or "I'll have to try something like that on my Silhouette!" (I have the SD and like it a lot, though it is LOUD and I feel like I'm always hovering over it watching it cut and hoping the paper doesn't get jammed/skewed/mangled… which does happen on occassion)
I have the Cameo and love it. I don't think they make/sell the SD anymore. I believe the Cameo replaced the SD. It is a really good machine and worth the money! I upgraded from a Cricut and haven't regretted it. Especially since the software that comes with the Cameo is fabulous and you can upgrade your software to a designer edition that will give you more options.
Now a question for you, what type of glue do you use for your cards? They are so beautiful! Every time I try to make a card my glue either gets all over my hands or makes my paper curl and look awful.
Awesome, I am visiting first time & enjoying your site!
Now going to follow 🙂
Love your cards! I just got a Silhouette and used it once so far. I am loving it! I think you should get one, make some designs, and sell us your designs! Yeah! Then I can make cool cards like you!!!
