Cap & Gown first draft done
First draft done of the female grad! Lots of changes have already been made to the pattern for the second round, but it’s a good start. I’m adding a little skirt underneath which will look nice with scallop scissored hems. Robe is a bit too long and needs to look a little fuller. I made tweaks to accommodate both 5 and 4 mm sequins (4 mm is shown here). I added a border to the back hem too.
There will be a stole option not seen here and also freestanding honor cords and a medallion in case one of your smarties is valedictorian or salutatorian. There will be male/female and adult/child sizes.
Y’all. I need to keep this as simple as possible. Different skin tones will be easy to do. I cannot possibly include every option for hair and shoes, so you guys will have to get creative if you want variety. I’ll include short/curly hair, long hair, and maybe a bun. Same thing for shoes, I’ll include maybe one or two and then you’ll have to take it from there.
Graduate level will have to be a future supplement pattern, as there are different tams/robes for masters and doctorate. Some of those hoods are super crazy and will be a design challenge. There’s got to be a way to simplify them so they can be portrayed in felt. OK, I’m back to work!
Love it! I can’t wait for the finished version.
I’m so excited to make these Larissa. I so appreciate you making the patterns available to us. After seeing the ones you made for your girls when they graduated I knew I had to make them for my two girls too. One of mine graduated from University in 2024 and the other in 2025 so I think they are similar ages to your girls. I know they will really appreciate having an ornament depicting each of them as the Larissa ornaments that adorn our tree that I’ve made over the years from all the sets are their favorite ornaments. In fact, I stopped putting any other ornaments on our tree because they pale in comparison to the handmade treasures you’ve enabled me to create. I decided to the TDITM along with you as well so at least one of my daughters will get a set of her own this Christmas.
Amy this is so awesome! Sorry for the delay in reply. Be sure to share a photo of your completed TDITM on my facebook page! I’m going to pin a post in December for folks to show off their completed sets.
