One Cushion Done, Five To Go
One chair cushion completed and installed. Oh, my. I just super duper love this one. Maybe because it is the one that is finished. Ha ha. Maybe because this AMH fabric is so gorgeous and I’m glad to finally find a use for it. I’m not sure I’m going to love the rest of the cushions and how they will all work together, but it’s enough for now to just lovety love this one.
I finished the new black and white curtains (you can see them in the background there). They need…something. Like some black trim. Or colored trim. I am tired of thinking about it right now, so I’m making the cushions and then I’ll look and ponder again. Do other people do this, I wonder? Stand in their kitchen and squint at their curtains?
The other five cushions will also have the black ticking on one side, and piping and buttons. The piping/button color will vary depending on the fabric. I think I will use the same black/white cotton webbing to make all of the loop attachments, which have velcro closures. I just couldn’t like the bows. This looks cleaner.
The brightly colored and different patterned cushions are a deviation from the original plan, but that’s because I now have black and white curtains and the dining area needs a splash of color. And they are all reversible, so I can flip them over to the ticking side if I want:
Progress is being made. And yes, I touched out the crumbs on my floor.
Pretty! I've been thinking of making some cushions for our kitchen chairs and wondering what to fill them with. Do you use regular polyfil? I tried one with several layers of quilt batting and it was pitiful, so no more of that. Bought ones just seem heavier than polyfil would make them, but then lighter isn't bad…

Two of our good friends work for PRO and we carpool with one of them. But besides those obscure details, the amendment is a deeply important work for our nation. God bless it!
Hey, Alyssa! Regular ol' polyfil is what I'm using. Stuff and stuff and stuff. When it looks about right, I try putting the buttons on and then I add some more if needed before I close it up. But it works fine! Some folks use foam, but that stuff is expensive and it was a bit too tailored looking for this.

Wow! Those are awesome! Love the fabric, a piping, and ticking… Everything about them! Question… The curtains… Where did you find them? They would be perfect in our living room plus I have a thing for polka dots!
Digging it, Larissa. I'm currently doing a lot of squinting around my house since I realized that I want to completely overhaul my entire living area. I keep wanting to start with pillows, but I think I need different artwork on the walls to have the pillows make sense. Oh my . . .

Oh yes I stand and squint at my curtains too! I'm just going to buy the next lot…I sew curvy lines so much better than straight lines lol! Your curtains look awesome – as do the chair cushions! (Do your cushions actually stay on the chairs? My kids pitch them off…weird kids!)

Kim, I would have SO bought my curtains if I could have found exactly what I was looking for. But try as I might, I could not. I'm just glad I found some fabric I liked that was cheap enough to purchase 11 yards! RE: cushions, believe it or not, this is the first time these chairs will be sporting cushions, so I have yet to see. They are attached on with velcro, so I doubt the kids will take the time to detach them to sit. I for one am looking forward to having some cush under my tush when I'm sitting there. LOL
Have you considered a band of the ticking with piping that matches your pillows down one side of your curtains?
Hey, Kate! I think I've considered every possible combination including one thankfully short-lived embroidery idea. Your idea with the piping sounds really nice, but I've decided I'm going to keep away from any color in the curtains besides black and white. Knowing my track record of loveit/hateit, I hesitate to tie them in too closely to the cushions. With the added bonus of NO MORE PIPING. After these cushions if I never see a packet of piping again, it will be too soon. Ha!
