Cap & Gown, first prototype underway! This is call Cap & Gown, first prototype underway! This is called a whipped backstitch, and it looks fancy but it is very easy. This is my first time using it. After you backstitch, you simply weave around and under each stitch with a second color. Blunt tapestry needle is helpful. This is one of the methods I’m testing to add honor cords to my graduate ornaments. I have two other options I’ll be exploring for free-standing cords.

If you saw my post/reel from January you'll remember the graduation ornaments I made my girls to mark their college graduations. Unlike those, the upcoming Cap & Gown pattern will have closed robes to bring the complexity back to a reasonable level.

I may need to break this up into two patterns. The basic which covers male/female elementary through high school, then a college/graduate degree supplement pattern with all the tams/hoods/stoles.
