Thing 1’s Woodland Critters
This is Stitches.
This is Buttons.
My 10 year old created these two softies using the embroidery book and sewing
kit gifted to her by Miss Robyn and of course I must feature them too.
I invited Thing 1 to write this post also, but she became very quiet as I sat expectantly with fingers poised above the keys. Then she suggested no text, just pictures. Too much pressure.
Here are the backs. Thank you again to Beth for the very appropriate Stampin’ Up fat quarter she used for Buttons. She zeroed right in on it.
Her preliminary sketch. She informed me these two are the first of five softies in a series she has designed, dubbed ‘Woodland Critters’. How ’bout that.
I had to be all casual and smooth about it, because if I get excited or too involved it kills it for her. I don’t want to be the crafting equivalent of a stage mommy: “Put down that silly book! Have you practiced your french knots today? You KNOW the Mother Daughter Pan Gran Embroidery Regionals are coming up! SMILE as you thread and no squinting! SMILE! Show me the sparkle!”

Love that they have movement and aren't just stagnant figures. So very creative. You've got a little illustrator in the making :).
It's just that our local radio station DJ also calls his boys Things 1,2&3. It just seems so generic, y'know? They deserve better. "Exhibit"? It's a step up, I suppose. If that's the best you can do. 😉
Awesome job, Miss Thing 1. Concept, design and follow through are all top notch. I expect there's Woodland Critters adventure stories begging to be told someday too. Have fun and keep creating!
Your DJ probably does that for the same reason I do it — just to give their minor child some measure of privacy on the air/internet. I DO call them by their given names in other arenas of life. LOL

Mama Pea, thanks so much. This might be the last post about the girls for a while — they don't get a regular visit from their Muse. It only hits them every once in a while.
Maybe a script or storyboard writing creative adventure? http://comiclife.com/ (free 30 day trial of software) Yes, kids are smart and can sniff out when something offered smells like homework but there's a good chance the fun aspect will overcome 'crickets chirping' to the suggestion. (I have used this program for scrapbook journal entries and it is fun.)
