‘Twas the Night Ornament Series

The series so far. More patterns to come!

My ‘Twas the Night Ornament Series is a set of heirloom hand-sewn ornament patterns inspired by the classic 1823 Christmas poem, A Visit from St. Nicholas, by Clement C. Moore. Most folks know its famous first lines:

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

CURRENTLY AVAILABLE PATTERNS:

Need more than one pattern in the series? Look for discounted pattern bundles in the shop.

THIS PATTERN SERIES IS ONGOING! More patterns are to come in this series each year until it’s completed. I post about it on all my channels and newsletter anytime a new pattern is released. The best way to keep current is to follow me on my IG or FB feeds and subscribe to my newsletter.

WHEN WILL THE SERIES BE COMPLETED? I am a part-time designer and things have been a little challenging lately. My goal is to release at least one pattern in each series per year but #life. Thanks so much for your excitement, enthusiasm, and patience! You’ve all been amazing. I really appreciate it. It keeps me going.

  • Total number of patterns in the series: NINE!
  • Average size of the finished ornaments: About 4 x 5 inches (10 x 13 cm) Of course, it varies because the shapes vary, but that will give you an idea.

GIFTING:
A gift of patterns? Aren’t you nice! Because my patterns are downloads, it’s best to give your crafty giftee an Etsy gift card (or cash) along with a link to my shop (mmmcrafts.etsy.com) and let them choose and download the patterns for themselves. Creating an Etsy account is easy and free for them, and their purchase will be backed up at Etsy in case of computer crashes, lightning strikes, or toddlers with peanut buttery hands.

WHERE TO BUY THE PATTERNS: Purchase my patterns exclusively from my Etsy shop and download them at your convenience. Your pattern download links do not expire:

FREQUENTLY WONDERED QUERIES:

Q: HELP! WHAT COLORS SHOULD I USE?
You can use your own favorite colors or coordinate with your Christmas decor. I’ve seen sets in every color combo imaginable (tagged on Instagram) and never one I didn’t like. However, I know that picking colors can be intimidating and stressful to lots of folks. Worry no more! I always make samples in delicious Benzie color combos and share the color guides right here, along with handy links to buy the felt/floss kits:

Q: HOW DO I FIND MY PATTERN DOWNLOAD?
Etsy emails you receipts that include your download links. Check your spam folder if it’s missing. You can also download your patterns anytime from your Etsy purchase history using a browser (not the Etsy app). GUEST CHECKOUTS: Please note the only way to access your guest checkout pattern is via your Etsy email receipt. Guest purchases will not show in your Etsy account unless you link them. It’s easy.

Q: I DON’T HAVE A PRINTER. DO I NEED ONE?
Yes. You do not have to print the instructions if you plan to read from a screen, but you will need to print the pattern pages to regular paper and also print or copy them to the Sulky Stick ‘n Stitch. Once you have a master set of pattern pages on regular paper, keep ’em handy. Then you can use a copier. Suggestions:

  • Perhaps you have a friend/son/daughter/life coach/tolerant neighbor/secret crush that has a printer you can borrow?
  • Perhaps you work somewhere that will allow you to print a few personal pages?
  • Libraries and churches often have copiers and printers you may use and may charge per page.
  • Note: office supply stores will not print my patterns without checking with me first because my patterns are copyrighted. Just contact me via my Etsy shop if you run into that issue.

Q: WHERE DO I BUY THE MATERIALS like felt, stabilizer, sequins, and other stuff needed?
I list US sources for materials in the back of all my patterns. Also Benzie Design offers lovely kits to go with my detailed color guides.

Q: I’M OUTSIDE THE US. WHERE DO I BUY THE MATERIALS?
I have a short list of international wool felt vendors here, recommended to me by customers. Also, Benzie Design gladly ships internationally.

Q: ARE THESE DIFFICULT TO MAKE?
Because of the small scale these are not beginner projects, but they are easier than you think! If you are familiar with hand sewing and can
1) sew basic stitches neatly (running stitch, backstitch, and whipstitch)
2) cut and assemble small pieces with precision and
3) work with sequins and beads
then you can make these ornaments and make them well. Why? Because of magical Sulky Stick ‘N Stitch. If you use it, there is no tedious pattern tracing or embroidery transferring involved. You simply print/copy my patterns to the Sulky stabilizer, peel off the backing, stick it on wool felt, then stitch right on the lines. Read more about that here. In addition to that, my patterns are chock-full of clear instructions and detailed illustrations and photos to guide you through every step.
